Community Land Acknowledgement
Our community events take place on the traditional territories of the Coast Salish, specifically Xwsepsum (Esquimalt), Lekwungen (Songhees), SC’IANEW (Beecher Bay), and the W̱SÁNEĆ Peoples represented by the Tsartlip, Pauquachin, Tsawout, Tseycum, and Malahat Nations. As we gather for events, we recognize the importance of honouring these lands and the Indigenous Peoples who have cared for them for generations.

Seasonal Goodness in our Community
Buying seasonal means buying local in our community — plus July’s produce in BC comes with big benefits for your eye health! Choosing to buy local not only benefits your health but also supports our local economy and helps reduce the environmental impact of long-distance food transportation. This July, we encourage you to enjoy local community produce. Fill your basket with fresh produce while supporting the farmers who grow them.
Our community has many local suppliers, from grocery stores to farmers’ markets. One of our favourite places to find fresh food is the Goldstream Farmers’ Market, held every Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM until October 11, 2025. You’ll find it at Veterans’ Memorial Park in Langford. Stroll through the market, meet local growers, and pick up seasonal produce, homemade treats, and unique artisan goods. It’s a great way to support small businesses and enjoy your weekend outdoors.
Eating fresh produce supports your health in many ways. Several seasonal and local vegetables offer natural nutrients that protect your vision:
- May – July 🫛 Peas contain lutein and zeaxanthin, which help protect your eyes from harmful blue light while using digital screens.
- June – December 🥦 Broccoli also contains lutein and zeaxanthin, and helps prevent retinal damage and age-related vision loss.
- June – December 🥕 Carrots are famous for supporting eye health, thanks to beta carotene (which your body turns into vitamin A for better night vision) and lutein.
Your family’s vision is our priority because healthy eyes mean a brighter future. Click here to book your next eye exam.
